Die lebhafte Geschäftsstadt Cochabamba in Bolivien ist zugleich die viertgrößte Gemeinde des Landes und liegt auf einer Höhe von 2558 Metern. Gelegen im zentralen Hochland Boliviens ist Cochabamba ein perfekter Ausgangspunkt für eine Rundreise, um das südamerikanische Land zu erkunden. Die Umgebung wird auch als Kornkammer Boliviens bezeichnet, da hier nicht nur Zitrusfrüchte angebaut werden, sondern auch verschiedene Arten von Getreide.
Cochabamba hat Sehenswürdigkeiten aus vielfältigen Kulturen zu bieten, darunter die Christus-Statue “Cristo de la Concordia”, gelegen auf dem San Pedro Hügel. Das Wahrzeichen der Stadt ist mit 40 Metern die zweitgrößte Christus-Statue der Welt und ermöglicht einen traumhaften Rundumblick von einer Plattform, die in 4 Metern Höhe gebaut wurde. Von der Spitze des San Pedro Hügels, die man per Seilbahn erreicht, haben Sie einen spektakulären Blick auf Cochabamba und die Bergkette Cordillera Tunari.
Das antike Kloster Santa Teresa und das Palacio de los Portales sind nur eine der vielen architektonischen Bauwerke, die zum Besichtigen einladen. Das prunkvolle Gebäude Palacio Portales wurde im eklektischen Stil erbaut und ist heute das Pädagogik- und Kulturzentrum Boliviens. Bunt und laut ist dagegen das Treiben auf dem Markt La Cancha, weswegen Cochabamba auch als “Hauptstadt des Essens” betitelt wird. Angepriesen werden Alltagsgegenstände und künstlerische Arbeiten, aber auch die bolivianische Spezialität Phampaku. Dies ist ein traditionelles Gericht aus Ente, Schweinefleisch, Mais und Korn.
