Der beliebte Wallfahrtsort Copacabana in Bolivien befindet sich auf der gleichnamigen Halbinsel, wenige Kilomter von der peruanischen Grenze entfernt. Gelegen ist Copacabana am Titicacasee in Bolivien auf einer Höhe von 3818 Metern. Eingebettet in eine halbmondförmige Bucht wird das Landschaftsbild von Copacabana durch Bergketten und sanfte Hügel geprägt.
Die verschlafene Stadt erweckt Anfang Februar zum Leben, wenn tausende Pilger zu der wichtigsten Wallfahrtskirche in Copacabana und Bolivien kommen. In der Kathedrale “Basílica de la Virgen morena” befindet sich die aus Holz geschnitzte heilige Jungfrau, zu deren Ehren jedes Jahr ein Fest zelebriert wird. Bei einer Bolivien Rundreise durch Copacabana in Bolivien sind Sehenswürdigkeiten wie die heiligen Inkainseln “Isla de Sol” und “Isla de la Luna”, die nur per Boot zu erreichen sind, einen Abstecher wert.
Wenn Sie den Titicacasee von oben sehen möchten, dann wagen Sie den Aufstieg auf den Hausberg Cerro Calvario, der 4011 Meter hoch ist. Der Berg gilt seit der Herrschaft der Inkas als heiliger Berg, von dem man bei klarem Wetter Umrisse der Anden erkennen kann. Nach dem Abstieg gibt es Erfrischung in der Einkaufsstraße “Avenida 6 de Agosta”, in der sich auch ein Bummel durch die Kunstgeschäfte anbietet.
