Die malerische Stadt Sucre in Bolivien zählt zu den schönsten sowie besterhaltensten Kolonialstädten Südamerikas und gilt daher seit 1992 als UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe. Die offizielle Hauptstadt von Bolivien liegt östlich der Anden in einem Tal auf etwa 2850 Metern Höhe. Berühmt ist die Stadt Sucre in Bolivien wegen weiß getünchten Kolonialbauten, durch die sie von den Einheimischen den Namen “Weiße Stadt” erhielt. Imposante Sakralgebäude, eine Vielzahl an alten Kirchen und ruhige Parkanlagen prägen das Stadtbild von Sucre, die durch die Nähe zur Silberstadt Potosi erst an Aufmerksamkeit erlangte.
Bei einer Rundreise durch die antike Altstadt kann man das Franziskanerkloster “La Recoleta” bewundern, welches mit wunderschönen Rundbögen und blühenden Dachterrassen dekoriert ist. Das Gebäude San Felipe, zu den 20 Kirchen in Sucre zählend, ist das Wahrzeichen der Stadt, von deren Aussichtsturm ein atemberaubender Blick auf die Anden möglich ist. Sucre, auch wegen der idyllischen Lage sehr beliebt, ist für edle Schokoladenspezialitäten weithin bekannt, die in der Innenstadt sowie auf dem Tarabuco Markt verkauft werden. Touristen können dort dem bunten Treiben beiwohnen und Verkäufer in traditioneller Kleidung bewundern.
